MTB EXPEDITION MONGOLIA

Attached is the information about our yearly MTB expedition in Mongolia with our sister road and MTB club: the Peloton Ulan Baatar.

The organizing club is our sister club: the Peloton Ulan Baatar.

The Peloton Ulan Baatar is the amateur branch of the Mongolian Pro Cycling Team and bike shop, headed by former Olympian cyclist Naran Zundui.

As you can imagine, to be a professional takes money and his cycling tour company helps employ the riders (as guides) and keeps them focused on their career.

For 9 days, he will take care of us and show us the best Mongolia has to offer.

ITINERARY

We have a great adventure MTB tour of 9days in famous Terelj National Park of Khentii mountain ranges of Mongolian Heart Land, Bogd Khaan National Park and Hustai National Parks.

The trip route for 9 days MTB tour:

Day 1: Transfer on arrival in Ulaanbaatar.

City tour to the main Sukhbaatar Square and the Great Mongol Empires Monument. Visit the famous Gandan Tegchilen Monastery of 19th Century. Watch live folk music show of famous Tumen Ekh ensemble.

Day 2. Bike to Gachuurt village and Terelj National Park.

Bike to Gachuurt village in the morning for 20 km. Have lunch at Gachuurt. Then bike to Terelj National Park for 30 km over a few mountain passes.  Around 50 – 60 km. Stay at ger camp.

Day 3. From Terelj NP to the Princess temple.

Early morning will bike through a few small rivers and streams through a long peaceful valley of Terelj for 25 km. Having a picnic by the Tuul riverside will continue to bike 25 km to the north side mountains of Terelj once a Temple was built for a loyal Manchu Princess who was married to a Mongolian Prince in the 18th century.  Stay at ger camp.

Day 4. From Princess temple to Khar lake (Black lake)

This is one of the least tourist visited areas simply because there is no road for car, only single horse trails to go over. Biking through the trail of valleys and mountain passes for about 40 km will reach the Khar Lake. This particular trail takes a higher challenge of the rest.

This is a beautiful area where Khentii Mountain ranges roam across. Once in the 13th century Genghis Khan was born and galloped through these ranges. Few passes to go over and very scenic.

The lake is a small fresh water lake with full of fish (perch, trout etc) Scenery is green pastures trees and some wild life to be spotted if you have some lure in hand.  Stay in tents.

Day 5.Khar Lake or Chinggis Statue

Option 1. Spend a day at the Lake or bike through the trails around the lake and fish for fun.

Option 2. Bike to Western flanks of Terelj Mountains for 30 km and drive to Genghis Khan’s Statue the biggest horse mounted statue in the world. Drive 60 km to Ulaanbaatar. Stay at Hotel in Ulaanbaatar.

Day 6. From Ulaanbaatar to Manzushir Monastery.

Bike to Manzushir Monastery at beautiful valley of the south Bogd Khaan Mountain.  55 km south of UB . Stay at ger camp.

Day 7. From Manzushir to Hustai National Park.

Drive 30 km and bike to Hustai NP for 50 km. Stay at a local ger camp. Visit local museum and watch a folk music performance if possible.

Day 8. Hustai National Park

Visiting Hustai NP the next day detour around the beautiful national park and watch wild horse or Preswalzki’s horses and flocks of deer. Visit ancient deer stones and burial sites which dates back to the Stone Age. About 40 – 50 km around trip through the hills.

Day 9: Drive back to Ulaanbaatar.

Visit Zaisan hill Memorial and Bogd Khaan Palace Museum. Shopping for a fine cashmere and souvenirs.

For the trip our guide and mechanic and 4wd support vehicle will accommodate the trip. 2 nights in Hotel, 5 nights in tourist ger camps, 1 or 2 nights in tents. Full board meals follow 3 times daily. Water and supply will include.
